Just the way this is cut to the music is awesome...definitely inspired me as a kid.

That being said, it is really hard to find any good movie title sequences on youtube without having to filter through repeat after repeat of the same video, re-edits, school projects, and countless fan-made Charmed title sequences...

Team Voltaren

Here's my football dudes for the project for Liz:


They started out as a hand drawing, then went through Illustrator and Photoshop. The logo on the helmet is the logo for Voltaren, and I picked #1 for obvious cheesy reasons...the logo on the second one is a little fuzzy, which I need to fix. The colors (blue and orange) are Voltaren's colors.

Movie Posters

I love movie posters. I love movies and I love posters...so it's a match made in heaven. Here are a few of recent memory that have caught my eye:

Friday the 13th

The poster series for the new Friday the 13th, coming out in February, are some of my favorites.

I love the basic poster because it allows the iconic hockey mask of Jason to do the speaking. It's visually striking, with the mask coming out of the black, and the typography is great.

The more complex poster is very striking as well...I like the typography, but the image is what really sells it for me.

Punisher: War Zone

The posters for Punisher: War Zone are very striking as well. The image treatment is great, as it directly matches the comic cover it's based on.

Gran Torino

I like black posters, I guess. The all black really projects the image off the poster, and thematically it suits the feeling of the film. A poster like this wouldn't work for the Love Guru or anything.

The Wrestler

The emotional image, the great typography, and the subdued colors really sell this film...the poster really shows that "The Wrestler" isn't what you might expect it to be.

The Express

Great, great poster. The cropping of the image, and the placement of type really make this a beautiful composition.

Rambo

Again, striking image cropped interestingly....and the type placement is shocking and exciting: right across Stallone's face. Really captures the intensity of the movie.

Wolverine Suckas

I've been trying to teach myself to color/paint in Photoshop, and this is my 2nd attempt. It started with a sketch of Wolverine, scanned it in, live traced it, and imported it to Photoshop, where I started coloring. It's pretty fun...like coloring in a coloring book. Wooooooooooo.

Wine Bottle

I found the perfect bottle tonight. It's for a Belgian Ale called Delirium Nocturnum, and the bottle is an opaque off-white color, with small, scattered black specks across the surface. It reminded me a lot of sand, which fits Beach Dogs alot. The neck of the bottle swells out at the shoulders, which reminds me of an old jug you might find on the beach or an island. I think the black designs on the off-white bottle will look good.

Warborn Records Site Sketches

Going for a steampunk look for the site. The final design will consist of a bunch of altered photographs of machinery pieces composited into one giant, crazy machine. It will move and blow off steam, blink, and clank. The navigation menu will be on a large cog in the center of the home page, that turns after you click a link.

New Character

I drew this is John's sketch book yesterday, and I really like him. I haven't thought of a name for him yet...

Camera

I just thought this looked cool, so I took a picture of it. It could be a cool texture for something...

Political Signage

I saw this stupid little jumble of political signs on the side of the road, and I felt compelled to stop and kick some of them over...er, I mean take some pictures. The arrangement is dumb, and I couldn't help but think about all these supporters of different candidates driving around the area, seeing that someone else had put up a sign and running over and jamming one of their signs right next to it. It's a known fact that when when you put your sign next to another political sign, it cancels it out...leaving you and your candidate victorious. The whole thing seems so juvenile. Hmm.



Poor Kelli Wolk. Not only is her name spelled with an "i," but her sign was too weak to stand up. That and her sign is just boring. At least it's readable...and blue is my favorite color. That's it...she gets my vote.




Then we have Mr. Gilstrap. I've never heard of a gilstrap, but it sounds dangerous...and a sheriff needs to be dangerous. Sounds good. All I know is, the "Elect Elect" at the top makes me want to run out and vote right away. And the yellow insures that you'll see it from minimum 1000 feet away...and upon approach it will scorch your retinas, leading you to blindly swerve your car off a bridge.




Here we have Kelli Wolk's second sign...uh, I mean Earl Giddins...or is that Elect Earl Giddins? What kind of first name is Elect? Wait...I think something's wrong. What's this guy running for? It says something at the bottom, but I couldn't read it driving past it at 45 MPH. Oh well. At least we know that someone named Giddins likes to make signs.







This one for Judge Dorothy Robinson is actually pretty nice. Nice color, good type choices. You can tell when the candidates have more money, because their signs are better. But if that wasn't enough, the sign is absolutely huge! It's about 6 times the size of all the puny signs around it, suggesting that it could kill and eat them if it wanted to. It wouldn't suprise me if people voted for Robinson just because "ooooo...that sign is sooooooo big!"











Deborah Honeycutt's sign is pretty straightforward. Deborah. Honeycutt. Congress. Note the stars...that means she's patriotic. And who doesn't love Honey? Mmm...honey. She's got my vote.






Hunter Hill's sign is pretty good...and just like Judge Robinson's sign, this one is massive. It's one of the best of the bunch. Readable, more creative with the type, good (although predictable) color choices. Pretty nice.





Go Hunter Hill.com is a really lame domain name though...






Judge Frank Cox has some serious connections...he was able to resurrect Lester Beall from the grave to design his campaign sign! Surely with clout like that he'll win in a landslide victory...

In all seriousness, I really liked this sign. It was very surprising to see, especially amongst some of the bland signs it grows next to in the political forest.

I think this one speaks for itself.

Oh, and notice that he's running for re-election. I wonder how many people voted for him just because of his name...
